Preparing Your Gutters and Roof Metal for Florida Hurricane Season
June through November, your drainage system takes the hardest hits of the year. A one-hour inspection now prevents thousands in water damage later.
South Florida storms don't just bring rain — they bring sideways rain, at volumes that overwhelm undersized or poorly maintained drainage. Here's the pre-season checklist we run on our own projects.
The Pre-Season Checklist
- •Clear every gutter and downspout — a single clogged outlet can back water under the roof edge
- •Check hanger spacing: gutters in HVHZ zones should be supported every 24 inches or less
- •Inspect flashing and drip edge for lifted or corroded sections
- •Confirm downspouts discharge away from the foundation, not against it
- •Look for sealant-failed seams on aluminum systems — resolder or reseal before the season
HVHZ-Rated Installation Matters
Palm Beach, Broward, and Miami-Dade counties fall in Florida's High-Velocity Hurricane Zone. Gutter and edge-metal installations there must meet stricter fastening standards. Every system we install is HVHZ-compliant — heavier gauges, tighter hanger spacing, and mechanical fastening that holds in 170+ mph design winds.
If your gutters took damage in a past storm or you're unsure they're storm-ready, request an inspection through our repairs page. Active leaks get priority scheduling.
