Custom Chimney Caps: Function, Sizing, and Why Copper Wins
A chimney cap keeps out rain, animals, and embers โ and a custom-fabricated copper cap does it for generations. Here's what to know before ordering.
An uncapped or badly capped chimney lets rain straight into the flue, invites birds and raccoons, and lets wind-blown embers escape. A properly built cap solves all three โ and on a visible chimney, it's a crowning architectural detail.
Why Custom Beats Off-the-Shelf
Big-box caps are made for standard flue sizes and fastened with sheet-metal screws into masonry. A custom cap is measured to your exact chimney crown, built with a proper drip edge and storm collar, and secured to survive hurricane winds. It also lets you match the style of your roof โ hip caps, curved tops, multi-flue shrouds, and decorative finials.
Measuring for a Quote
To price a custom cap we need four numbers: crown length, crown width, flue height above the crown, and the number of flues. Snap a photo of the chimney from the ground and include it with your quote request โ it helps us recommend the right style.
We fabricate chimney caps in copper, aluminum, stainless, and galvanized steel, all in-house at our Florida shop.
